It’s completely up to you! You can either learn to read music (which is required for classical guitar) or simply use TAB.
How do I pay?
Whatever is easiest for you. I prefer cash or cheque. Seen as I work teach at a music shop, you can also pay using card.
Where do the lessons take place?
My studio is located at Sharon Music, Gillingham. My studio has all the necessary amplification and audio equipment needed. All you need to do is bring along your guitar!
I want to learn a specific song. Can you help?
Of course! I always encourage my students to keep a handy list of songs that they like and would want to be able to play. It gives me a great insight into the type of music you’re into and also allows me to make some great suggestions for other songs you may not have heard of, but would really like too!
What styles do you teach?
I teach all styles. From blues to fun, from jazz, to metal. (and everything in between!)
Do you have a cancellation policy?
I do. All I ask for is 24 hours notice if you need to cancel a lesson. It just requires a quick phone call or a little text the day before. If it is an emergency (eg. your arm has fallen off) thenI do make exceptions for no notification.
How are lessons structured?
My lessons are really laid back and are designed for you to have fun! I keep a good structure, but make sure that it isn’t rigid and boring. A little warm-up, a couple of musical messing around, and off we go and make some noise!
What teaching materials do you provide?
I will give you everything that you need. I supply all backing tracks and relevant sheet music. All I ask is for you to bring along a USB memory stick so I can quickly and easily give you all necessary mp3 files. Some of my clever ‘teach’ kids have found a program in which they can slow down tracks to be able to learn things easier!
Can I do guitar exams?
Of course you can. I use RGT examinations as I feel they give you the most rounded, overall approach and progression to learning the guitar. Ask for more details or see the Grades page.
What do I need to bring to my lessons?
Sheets from previous lessons (get a folder to keep them neat!), your USB stick and your guitar
How much do I have to practice?
When you’re first starting out, the best would be half an hour a day. Don’t leave it all week and try and cram in 2 hours the day before your lesson! Ideally, 15-20 minutes a day is great! It’ll keep everything fresh in your mind and keep your fingers moving. And with that, you’ll be a rockstar in no time!
